Growing Requirements

Specialty mushrooms grow differently. Know the differences before you start:

Most specialty varieties grow on wood-based substrates, straw, or sawdust rather than the manure-based compost used for white and brown button mushrooms. Substrate preparation, sterilization, and inoculation methods vary by species.

Specialty mushrooms typically require different temperature, humidity, and CO2 parameters than Agaricus. Lion's mane, oyster, and shiitake each have distinct fruiting triggers and grow room requirements.

For non-Agaricus production, Spawn Mate II SE is specifically formulated for specialty crops including oyster mushrooms. It provides a low-protein, simple carbohydrate base optimized for non-Agaricus needs.
